evinrude 4hp water pump

Hi
My engine number is 43b36c/b40935 - I'm still having problems with the engine overheating and cutting out it appears to be the waterpump as the jacket is bone dry. Any advice regarding repair (if possible) or where I could find a replacement would be great. Thanks.

Can you double check your model number, I can't cross the numbers you listed.

I make 43B36 a 1973 4 hp Evinrude


A Belgium made version of 4336C perhaps ?

pretty simple!

replaced the pump impeller?

impeller drive key in position?

Pump body not damaged or worn?

Water tube correctly fitted.

If all that is correct then it is possible that there is a problem at the top of the tube.

With the gear case off connect a hose to the water tube. If you cannot then get a good flow you have a problem at the top somewhere.

I'll be back with some links to pictures if I can locate them.

Just noticed that OP is in UK Very likely a Belgium made model!

A new impeller would be a good start. Many times the reason for the pump not working properly is the impeller isn't deep enough in the water barrel for it to pump well. Make certain the water level is 1/2 way up the leg or higher. Best of luck. Rick.

Thanks for the advice - I've ordered an impeller I'll let you know how I get on.
