Fluid leak from prop shaft

96 40hp Mercury. I noticed fluid (Im assuming lower unit fluid) slowly leaking from prop shaft today. Just had boat out yesterday, had problem with high idle randomly, but ran fine when got home on the muffs. Noticed the fluid in the driveway today. Any ideas? Where do I begin? Replaced water pump approx 3 months ago, and changed lower unit fluid about 2 weeks ago. Thanks,

Smell the oil to confirm it is gear oil. if it stinks, it is gear oil. If it is leaking gear oil, it is likely the propseal is bad. Did you find any fishing line around the propshaft?
