I just purchased a 96 1750 Crestline fish hawk with a 97 90HP 2 stroke force. Took the boat out last night started right up. Placed it in gear slowly idled out past the no wake zone pushed the throttle forward a little and the motor revved up like it was in neutral. I placed it in neutral and tried slow forward but it seemed to stay in neutral and I had to be towed back to the dock. I?m wondering if this is an adjustment issue or something mechanical with the motor. The slide on the motor seems to be moving when it is place in forward and reverse.

Props aren't the cheapest part to replaced. Might better off looking at a reconditioned.

Now that the boat is on the trailer.

(With engine off)

Have someone slowly push the throttle/gear lever foward at the control.
While you spin the prop.

Does it engage?

Go back to neural. Do the same for reverse?

Does it engage?

Could be linkage adjustment, or cable adjustment.

Your prop hub maybe spun. If the other recommended tests show no results, try this. WITHOUT THE ENGINE RUNNING , put the power lever in forward gear and physically try to turn the prop. If you can move it, the hub is spun and it needs to be re-hubbed.
