I purchased a adapter to pressure test my Mercruiser I/O.
It appears pressurizing it up to 15 psi and check for leaks. looking for some tips and assistance with this procedure. I'm getting water in the gear lube.
I was thinking to use dish soap and water around the seals external, but what about those around the water pump, shift seal, etc? I have the gear lube drained currently. Thanks if you can give me any tips.

Pressure testing will only find seals that are leaking oil out of the drive. You're getting water into the drive, so you need to do a vacuum test....

Thanks! Good info thread. The pressure tester I found on Ebay. I plan to use my electric tire pump, and stop between 10-15 PSI.
Sounds like your boat is simular to mine.

Re: Pressure testing outdrives

I think I have a gear oil leak and water intrusion issue. Good point if water comes in and not leaking out. It leaves a light film on the water when floating for awhile. I use a Mityvac tool when I did carb work, so it should to the job with my boat too. Thanks, Good Tip!
