I was rumaging through my boat's compartments checking to see what all was in there..(bought boat late last fall) and was checking the Olin "Alerter" flare gun kit and saw an expiration date of 1993 on the case....Never opened so know it was never updated. Can anyone advise where I can get replacements? Having a tough time finding anything online so far...BTW it is 12 guage. Is this a decent kit or is there something better? I only fish inland lakes and rivers but want to be safe and current.

here in ohio, you dont need flares unless you are going to be more than 2 miles offshore(great lakes).in all other instances, you can just have a distress flag.read your requirements and save some money if you can.

Ya could check with your Coast Guard Auxilliary. Many will take your old flares off your hands for free.

My old flare kit was from Olin and I could get replacement flares that would fit the "gun".

Check your local regulations, some areas treat flare guns the same as hand guns, you need a permit to own it & carry it.
