Not too bad. But were sore as heck..

Damage to the outside of the car doesn't give it justice on how hard we hit.

Took off from an inter section. Truck in front of the hit the brake hard. I slammed on my brakes and stopped before hitting him. Then SLAM. A newer dodge ram hit us in the rear.

Rear deck lid, bumper cover, bumper supports and bumper brace all damaged. On further inspection of the car, the rear supports for the frame are tweaked.
I'm off to the body shop tomorrow.

Here's a few pics:

Re: Got in a car accident

Thanks, were just bumped and sore.
My son has mild whiplash, same as me.. Plus my lower back hurts like hell. I have a degenerating and hardening disk in my back, so this just inflamed it.

my wife has severe whiplash, (well they dont call it whiplash anymore). More accurately she has, Cervical Muscle Strain.

My dad owns a body shop and i spent many years working in there, and seen many cars with about the same damage be a total due to the frame damage if your impala is older than a 03 i would guess it is totaled

No, we have just the minimum liability for WI.

I'm sure his insurance is going to try and screw us. I want to hope for the best, be we're dealing with insurance companies.

Back and neck injuries can be aggravating and take a long time to heal.

On the up side, the way modern cars have components that absorb most of the energy instead of passing it along to the passangers, has saved countless people from more severe injury.

I hear that.. If we were in our older Saturn. That car would have been crunched.

I'm going to get a few estimates today and see if the car is fixable.

Something to look out for: A lot of times in situations like this, the person who hit you will claim that you rammed the truck in front of you first, and that because of this, your brake lights never came on and you stopped faster than you should have been able to. Did they run you into the car in front of you? Do you have pictures of the damage to the front of your car (if any) and the damage to the truck in front of you (if any)?

We didn't get pics of his truck. (the guy who hit us.)

We didn't hit the vehicle in front of us. We were able to stop in time. But he wasn't able to. I can tell you that I know there was time for him to stop. Once I stopped I looked in the Rearview mirror and said "Hold on" then slam. He hit us.

I got 2 estimates.
Dealership wants 3200 to fix the car.
A very reputable body shop in town here want 2895 to fix the car.

I called the PD for the report and said it's waiting for a supervisor to approve it. Dont know why but the gal told me Monday it should be ready.

Re: Got in a car accident

Unless you were rapidly backing up without backup light when he hit you, it's 100% his fault. (Almost a direct quote from my insurance agent when my son rear ended someone.)

I would complain bitterly about all the pain in your back and neck. Then settle for cash enough to fix or replace the car and some for the pain. You should have rolled out of the car onto the pavement writhing in pain at the scene.:D

Believe me, they will want you to sign off on it quickly. I'd do it, but drive a decent bargain.

hope it helps

Re: Got in a car accident

You are going to hear a lot of arm chair lawyers advise here. I will tell you a bit of advice based on what happened to me not 2 years ago in a boat accident...

If you all have any pain you need to go to the doc quick. Tell your doc you got hit by another car and let him check you out. Some of this whiplash takes months to heal and get worst in the first weeks/months. If you dont go promptly to the doc the insurance company will later claim that your delay in seeking medical help aggravated your condition. In my case the pain got bad to the point that I could not sleep without medication and some motions or stances will be painful.
When it was all said and done the insurance company paid me for my medical care and about 10 times what I paid for my boat. BTW, I bought it back and fix it too.

You will not become rich.
You will not be able to quit your job and boat every day.
You might not have any money left from the award after all paid for...

I'm not telling you to go and try to deceive the insurance into giving you a big award. But the truth is that you ARE entitled to have your property and medical bills paid for.

Good luck.

Glad no life threatening injuries. But then again, cervical muscle strain is not much fun!

Re: Got in a car accident

Not looking to get rich and retire.

All I want it either the value of my car to replace it. Or fix the car. Plus the medical bills. I'm not a greedy person that will look for an extra buck.

Only thing I'm afraid of is the insurance company is going to try and snowball me. take my car, give me a low totaled amount. Or let me keep my car and give me lesser amount. Then not have enough to fix the car..

Either way. I'm not going to jump the gun here. 1st thing we have to do is wait for the PD's report to complete. Then I'm sure the insurance company will contact me. We've already seen the emergency department. Plus my wife seen her regular doctor today.
