When I retrieve at night ( which is most times ) after I back down the ramp, I turn off my headlights and leave the marker lights on. Seems like it's easier for the next guy to back down the ramp. It's a multilane ramp.
Now, it seems like about 3 times out of five, I mention to someone else that leaving the headlights on blinds the guy backing down. So I'm wondering how folks on here do it.
If I could've figured out how to do a poll, I would've started it that way.
But if someone else feels like adding it in...feel free:)

Re: Lights on boat ramp at night?

We just use our marker lights. Your right about the headlights from another vehicle, as far as I'm concerned. I use my mirrors and have had to turn one down and out several times to keep the beam from blinding me even using the other mirror.

I think some people just do not know any better. Some people, who maybe turn and look out the window, might think it helps to have that light when they are backing. Don't really know for sure. Guess I never really put much thought into it.

Heck, some might wonder why anothers lights are not on.

On a side note, most of the ramps we use have over head lighting and a couple even have signs that state "lights off".

Now you got me thinking...I won't get another thing done at work the rest of the day...:D

I know a guy that unplugs his trailer lights before back down. He thinks the bulbs will last longer if you don't dip the hot bulbs in cold water. I have no idea if he's right.

If they are incandesecent bulbs in casings that are not waterproof, he's right.
But what I'm asking about are the tow vehicles lights.:)

Ummm.... yeah I keep my headlights on. I don't want some drunk running into my truck because he can't see it.

Would you be more comfortable with a sober guy hitting it because he can't see his trailer because of the glare????

Thanks 180shabah.......beat me to it.

That's the point. Your vehicle is sitting still ( hopefully with the parking lights on to be VISIBLE ) if it gets hit, it's someone else's insurance. Why make it more difficult for the guy backing down?:(

You shouldn't be out after dark. It's too dangerous.

If he can't see... then he needs to stop driving until I either move or he can see.

Who gives a chit about the guy backing down? My concern is my truck, my boat, and my wife (not in that particular order)...

Delete, delete, delete.

It's not worth it! Sorry to intrude on YOUR ramp.
