I have a 1990 40hp johnson. I mix the gas so I no longer need the VRO pump and would like to replace it with a 12v microelectric fuel pump. It pumps 1-4psi. I am trying to find 12v power that I can use to power the pump. There is plenty of straight 12v power on the block but I need it to come on only when I turn the key on. How do I do this?

add a relay. can use a ignition signal or just a switch.

either way its easy to do and pretty cheap.

How about mounting the pump at a in-line place on the boat, visable and accessable to all tanks -- kinda like the water seperator is ?? Maybe right next to it ??

I have thought about this, since I redid my Triumph Spitfire, and ran both electrical and stock pumps at correct pressure. That works good.

Best Wishes, Cal

PS-- If anybody has lower unit to leg bolts for an E48 -- some of mine seem to have vibrated out after being heli-coiled, I would be happy to buy some. Short story, corroded bolts, heli-coiled, still not really secure, trying sealant, maybe J-B weld if that don't work. Last resort tack weld the case *#!, bad seller !!

I agree with TASHADDY 100 %. If you had a fire on board and good old electric fuel pump didn't stop pumping guess what BOOM!!!! He gave you the BEST advice on what to do.

There was an interesting thread about 6 months ago on the same subject. If i can find it I will post the link.
My opinion is Do Not Do It.
Safety and fire hazard reasons to name but 2 at this time.
