2000 Johnson 150 OceanPro flooding

I have a 2000 Johnson 150 OceanPro that is flooding with gas. Have changed all the needle valves and seats in the carbs and floats are adjusted properly. Changed the needle valve and seat and float is adjusted properly in the fuel bow. Changed the spark plugs also.

When trying to crank for the first time, it will act like it's going to crank then shuts off. Then nothing more. After that, I see a fuel residue in the water coming out of the foot (muffs hooked up and water on). It started flooding while I was out on the water and I could crank it playing with the throttle, but if it did crank it would shut off after about 20-30 seconds with heavy gas smell. Thought maybe the electric choke might be acting up, but don't know anything about the system on this motor.

Any suggestions???

Insure that when you pump the fuel primer bulb ,before attempting to start engine, will pump up hard and firm.This will indicate that not only are the float needles in the carbs are seating but that the fuel primer valve is not either leaking by or its red lever is open or slightly open allowing fuel to bypass carburetors and flood the engine.

What position should the red lever be in? The primer bulb does go soft after trying to start.

Normal for it to go soft after attempting to start.It just needs to pump up firm and hard before. The red lever should be seated all the way in the clockwise direction.This will be with the red lever inline with the body of the fuel primer.

red handle should be back over the body of the primer, also have some one, activate the primer, to make sure it is not leaking. primer bulb does go soft as the fuel pump pulls fuel thru the bulb.

also if motor is not upright the carbs are out of level and will flood. starting position is tilt all the way down.

Motor is in the down position. Primer bulb pumps up hard and stays hard. Red handle is pointing down (all the way to right...clockwise)

Next ..I would recommend performing a spark test on all cylinders at cranking speed as well as a compression test.This is assuming that the float levels are correctly adjusted.If the fuel primer does indeed pump up firm a hold pressure without leaking down ,that should eliminate the possibility of needle valve or fuel primer leakby during normal run operation.

Will check tomorrow when I get off work and post results.

Didn't have the tool to do a compression check, but the motor showed a spark every now and then when it was first turning over. Then timing light showed no spark on any cylinders. Rechecked with a sparkplug (holding it to a head bolt)...also showed a few sparks at first...then nothing.

It is an optical sensor motor.

Powerpack??? How would you check the powerpack and coils?
