working on a 93 115hp mercury had low oil alarm so disconnected blue wires to low oil switch alarm stopped. checked and had continuity through switch. replaced switch and have the same problem. question is does this oil tank have a built in float as parts illistrations do not show one. I did not have continuity through the old switch after removal. tank is full of oil and I do not want to remove it if there is nothing in the tank to go bad as switch does not come in contact with oil

Re: low oil alarm

Found that there is a float in the bottom of the oil tank and after many years becomes saturated with oil and sinks. When float sinks it activates the proximity switch in the bottom of the tank and gives a false low oil alarm. Replacing oil tank solved this problem. Hope this helps somebody else later.
