I just bought a boat with a 30hp suzuki and it does not start. The old guy I bought it off said it purred like a kitten last time he used last year. He is a mechanic by trade but not marine. He spent the better part of 2 days prior to my purchasing it trying to get it running. He ended up completely stumped but agreed to sell me it all for a good price and could be great price if I can figure it how to fix with little cost. He was convinced it is a ignition module like piece because he gets power in but not out. But not certain if this is normal. The piece he recommended I try first is about 2" square maybe less and has 2 wires going in and it has what I would call fins on it or maybe vents. Sorry I am a complete dunce with this. The part number off of it is Stekley SU228S-3 below this is the following number 0A06B01. Anyone know what this is and where I can get one. And or have any input on what I should be trying to solve this starting issue? Any help or direction would be very very much appreciated.
Thanks
Robert

Re: Suzuki DT30C Help Please!!

Me again.
I think I found what the part is: Rectifier \ regulator. Could this be the cause for above mentioned problem?? Could the CDI unit also be the problem?? Read some post with some saying that the CDI failing is extremly rare.
Thanks again.

Re: Suzuki DT30C Help Please!!

You need to pick up a Service/repair manual for your motor and some test equipment to do some testing.
It could be as simple as the safety kill switch but I have no idea as to what the problem is without taking some readings. If it has the proper signals going into the CDI but nothing coming out then it could be the CDI or key switch, or safety switch.
I always start with testing compression and spark on all cylinders and if that is OK then look at fuel.

Re: Suzuki DT30C Help Please!!

Thanks for that info.
Any idea where to find a service manual for my motor??
I am pretty certain the previous owner said that he was NOT getting a spark. He just could not figure out why. As he was not an electrical expert, he was not certain as to some of the readings he was or was not getting as to what was normal. He did say that he had power going into the rectifier but nothing coming out which he figured was probably not correct therefore felt that I should replace that part first.
Any of this sound correct??
Could anyone recommend a really good dealer for acquiring parts for this motor. I am in Canada so shipping would have to be permitted here.
Thanks
Robert

Is a good place to order online parts and manuals for Suzuki

All I think rectifiers do is change the AC signal to DC for charging the battery and the regulator makes sure it is the proper voltage. Non electric start motors don't even have them or need then as far as I know.
