Looking for some insight as to why the only way I can keep the engine (model E15ELCEC) running at idle is by constantly toggling the choke on/off. I've cleaned & rebuilt the carb, installed new plugs, and drained the gas and replaced with fresh. Full throttle seems to work fine but when I let off it will die unless toggling the choke.

Appreciate any ideas.

Thanks

Did you check the fuel pump? How does it run if you keep the primer bulb firm?

That is usually a symptom of a dirty low speed circuit in your carb. You might consider re-cleaning it paying more attention the the slow speed circuit. Have you performed a link and sync. and is your slow speed idle screw set correctly? Have a look here for proper procedures. Best of luck. Rick.

It does sound like a fuel starvation problem at low speed. Easiest check is to try and adjust low speed mixture screw to a richer setting. If that does not work, pull the fuel line iff the carb and see if it pumps gas when you pull the rope starter, confirming the pump is OK. If all is good, then you will most likely want to remove the carb and clean it.

Thanks for the information. I have not done a link & sync. I'll get a copy of a service manual and start with that.

I took the carb off and re-cleaned it and then did the link & sync - still having the same problem. I wondering if the plastic cover to the carburetor body (where the slow speed needle is ) might be slightly warped. I've read that that has been a problem with this style carb. If it is warped and sucking too much air, would that cause this problem?
