we have a 1990 150hp johnson motor. We just replaces the lower unit seals because of a leak. Now the boat wont go up on plane. we took it to a dealer for repair but they can't find the problem. We have replace the fuel/oil pump, replace all the fuel, cleaned the carbs....with no improvement.

The boat wont go over around 7mph...however if you pump the ball while reving the engine it comes on plane...PLEASE HELP!!!!

they said they replaced the vro2 pump already (fuel pump). We just replaced the seals in the lower unit could this in some way effect it? it seems to run fine untill it is in the water. it reves up in neutral then once in gear it has no power and wont go over 7 mph.

Lose the vro pump. I had the same problem and cleaned carbs and put on a new fuel pump. Not runs great. If you want to keep the old pump. Check for air leaks in your fuel lines. If. Pumping the bulb helps it is most likely not your pump.

Fuel pump, tank not vented, massive air intrusion, the list goes on but it points directly at the fuel system.
Check the pump output to find out.

we have removed the gas cap to vent the tank (no success). what is the best method to check for leaks and check the fuel output. We didnt have any of these problems till after we replaced the lower unit. is there anything there that would cause to boat to be under powered. it reves up when in neutral but when in gear it never reaches full throttle.

Park,

Don't know if you have figured it out by now. If not, explain in detail how you did the seal replacement including all procedures for dropping the lower unit (assuming you did that). If the motor operated perfectly before the lower unit work, but not after, then something has been disturbed in your repair process.

If you have it corrected, it would be good to have it captured here to complete the story. Every story needs a happy ending :)
