Well, my entire day was spent polishing and waxing the boat, but it came out awesome. I can definitely recommend these products....

Variable-Speed Random Orbit Polisher 7424XP

Looks GREAT!! Do you know if they outsource to any vendors or internet only? I'd like to see how that stuff does on something with another 10yrs worth of sun/water damage...

Not sure where you are, but I know West Marine stocks it. I'm sure other vendors will have it too. I used Autogeek.net and the service was great. I would probably use the yellow pad if your surface was really bad.

Yellow Low Profile Cutting 5.5 inch Foam Pad - Use this pad to apply compounds or polishes to remove severe oxidation, swirls, and scratches

Best of all, its supposed to last much longer than normal wax, will see...:)

I think I'd use that polisher with a good round or two of 3m polishing compound first. I love the Collinite wax and the Polish, but for older dull finishes I think the 3m will bring back the color easier than the Collinite polish.

Been using Colinite #885 paste wax for years. It give a much better finish than the #925 boat wax.

Apply a second coat about 3 weeks from now. Wet on, wet off. Apply and remove by hand. You can go back over it with a buffer but I prefer to do it by hand.

There have been many posts on the Collinite products and all good. My problem is that I get confused as they have several products that all say essentially the same thing and they all lead you to think each is the best. I would have picked the insulator wax.

Re: Finally identified a good boat Polish and Wax

This is the results that I got from 3M products. This was a hand applied test area to see if the 35 year old hull had any promise.

It had spent most of its life under a cover, but about 15 yrs mid life in a shed but the last two were uncovered and exposed.

The gloss meter high polish black glass standard is 93.6 and a flat off white tile standard is 34.3. The untouched areas around the waxed areas measured between 5.5 and 11.2. Several spots on the waxed area on the side of the hull measured between 90.1 and 91.2. and another waxed area on the gunnel was 88.7

Insulator wax is made for ceramics. Unless you have a boat made out of ceramics that's not the product for you. IW works good on stainless and aluminum.

Re: Finally identified a good boat Polish and Wax

The cleaner (#920) is required for the wax (#925) to properly adhere to the hull.

I emailed Collinite and they said that I can use either the #920 Boat Cleaner or #870 Liquid Fleetwax to remove the water spots. Either product will not strip the wax.

PS. Next time I would apply a light coat of wax (#925) by hand in a small area at a time and remove with the buffer when I see the wax start to dry or come to a haze. I did it the other way round, applied the wax with the polisher (thin wet layer) and buffed it out with a cloth :)

I have also only heard good things about Collinite.

I went with Meguiars stuff on my boat and I'm very pleased with the results as well.

Collinite is my choice for our boats also. Beads like crazy and it lasts along time. Also use it on my Jeep. :)
