While changing the plugs on my engine I noticed a small place, about 3/8" in Dia. on the voltage regulator that looks like it has melted. It is hard now. Do I have a potential problem and what do I need to do? Thanks in advance for any help.
The engine is a 1983 Johnson, Model J90TLCTE.

Checked with local Johnson dealer. He didn't know what caused the spot. He said "just run it til it quits". Anybody know if that's a good thing to do?

Check that you are charging the battery Ok and that the regulator is in fact regulating the volts correctly.

If its charging and regulating then all would seem to be well.
