Hi guys, thanks so much in advance for any replies..
I have my grandfather old Johnson Seahorse 10 hp outboard w. org. gas can....this outboard was used exactly once a yr. to fish a week in Canada and thats it......imho, i cannot imagine a engine any older while be nicer. I really have no clue gents, here are some pics to help out. I basically just want to come to a fair consensus value on it.

That's a very nice original old outboard.......worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I'd personally offer $300.00 for one like that with good compression. Don't need to hear it run knowing it will need complete ignition, water pump and carb overhaul.

I just bought the exact same motor, in very similar condition for $150 with the tank included. I'm in the process of changing coils, points, condensers, plug wires, and rebuilding the carb. The parts cost about $200 for everything, including new hoses for the tank. I thought I got a really good deal. It's funny, I was told the same story about it being used once a year for a week up north. Your motor looks to be in great condition as well (very nice original paint and decals!). I know that even just the tanks are becoming pretty rare.
Even if it was only used occasionally, I would say that you still need new coils, and new hoses for the tank, because I understand that modern fuel is not meant to be run through the old lines. A carb rebuild is recommended as well for the same reasons.

Good luck with your Seahorse!

on ebay, in that cosmetic condition as a good runner, people are asking around $500

i've yet to see one go for that much. the more beat up it is, the less it's worth, as low as $50, i've seen some parts motors go for over $100. Parting these smaller motors is tough because there is a very small demand. The old 15's and 18's are very popular as are the parts. Very simple motors and easy to work on, unlike anything newer that have become more and more idiot proof

I think $400 would be absolute top dollar, even though I also think that it's not what a motor like that is worth because it will last just as many years as a new one with about $200 worth of parts, and be cheaper to keep running than the new ones.
It's a super nice motor, and the MOST powerful OMC 10hp motor I've ever run. (I've got a '55,'56, and '53 10hp) My '53 10hp was USED a LOT before I got it and is still a darned powerful runner. The only negative I have with it is that the cowl is not sealed and it is quite loud----but I still love it. I put a fuel pump on mine to run modern tanks but to be honest, it hasn't moved out of my living room for about 2 years. I am going to put it back into action soon, however, on my wood skeeter boat I'm finishing. I think it's one of the prettier outboards ever built.
You'd be crazy to sell your granddad's motor........Keep it in the family and maybe one day get it running and enjoy it, or pass it on to your son and maybe he will use it.
I'd trade my QD-14 for your's ANYTIME!!!!!!!!!!!!

A motor like that WITH the tank and completely gone though (new points, plugs, condensers, coils wires, pump impeller and carb rebuild) could bring $400. If the maintenance work has not been done, buyer will be in for about $150 in parts if he can do his own labor. If the work was done by a mechanic, it would be expensive. I'd go no more than $150 in as-is condition. That's assuming it has good compression.

The price will depend a lot on the local market. Here in Minnesota, lots of people have small aluminum boats, and a 10 hp is very popular, even the old ones. That said, its saleability and value is very dependent on the outboard being in excellent running condition. If it doesn't run, few people will pay much for it, even if it looks terrific.

$300-400 here for a good runner in nice-looking condition. That's tops, since there are also a lot of them around.

That's a beautiful old original classic. Why are you thinking about selling it?:confused:

The first model year with the roto-grip tiller. A nice improvement on the QD's
I believe that is also the first year of the side mounted shifter as well. Another major improvement. The older front shifters were a bit troublesome at times.

Myself, I would keep it, for the sake of being an heirloom. I would keep it and use it.
