Hey guys my name is robert and i am new to this forum site. i am looking at a 2010 stingray with a 3.0 volvo engine. this will be my first boat and i was wondering if it would have enough power to pull someone with a tube. i have searched and cant find anything. i have about an 18,000 budget for a boat and wanna make the right choice so i dont regret buying one. if you have any advice i would like to hear it. thanks. robert.

I would get a 4.3 motor or better if you have that much to spend a 4.3 is a nice motor and will pull a tube or skier way better and easier than a 3.0. Plus when you have a few passingers in the boat the 4.3 will handle it better. I have had the smaller motor and now have the 4.3 and love it will never have anything smaller. Oh and welcome to iboats lots of information here:D

Welcome to iboats!

Absolutely it will pull a tube or a skier. That is a great combination and the volvo drive is great.

I winterized a Stingray last year with the exact set up and I was impressed .....very nice rig.

Honest opinion .... if you can find one a year or two old you might save a bundle of cash ;)

Re: New to the Forum

get the biggest engine ya can.

no body ever says, gee, i wish i had the smaller engine in my boat. but they do say (all the time), what can i do to my engine to get more hp out of it. and the with the 3.0, there ain't much to do to it to get more hp out of it either best i understand.

a smaller engine can be a hazard too. nobody wants to have any issues while boating, but they do happen. weather, currents, waves, whatever. sometime having the hp to get up and go can be a real life saver..

Re: New to the Forum

Hey what other manufacturers are there that carry a 4.3 L engine at a decent price? I have a budget of 18,000$ and cant seem to find anything in my price range. Also are there any good websites I can look at to find boats for sale?
Thanks!

Re: New to the Forum

enough hp is relitive.
my boats pretty light, it has 165hp L6, a low end torquey engine. nothing i'm gonna do to it to get any more hp out of it. i normally boat with 2 onboard. some gear. it does fine. load it up with 3 folks, or 4 worse yet. i know the weight is there. max cap is 6. it just depends what yer doing with your boat. pulling skiers w/4 on board my boat, might be a challenge. but i don't usually do that. with my gear and 2 i'm good.

good web sites to buy boats at. sure, right here on iboats. the classifieds. up there at the top somewhere. boats for sale. lots of great boats there. got mine from there... ;) widein you boat kind too. many great design boats out there. just get something that has been common over the years. chevy's, vp or merc.

any boat mfg. can have a 4.3 in it. boat mfg. don't make engines. they make boats. anything other than the boat is mfg by someone else...

It will do the job but you will always wonder how the bigger motor would have performed.
Good Luck with your decision.
