Year of 40 HP Blue band Mercury

I just got an aluminum boat with 40 Hp Mercury with blue band. There was missing an ID plate on the motor. Only serial I could read on the block is 7007257. The owner had removed the water pump to service and misplaced all the parts. I 'd like to find out the year so I could order the water pump kit. Thanks for any info.

Merc spare parts are serial number oriented, not year (like white engines). If you use the serial number you will get the right parts for your engine. To answer the question of year, it's a 1973, but take the serial number with you when you go to get spares.

I have looked at Iboat part. It looks like these part of what I need.
Sierra Complete Kit 18-3323 or Mallory Water Pump Kit, complete 9-48302I could not find the part range for my serial number 7007257. Hope anyone could point me to the right part number.
Is 40 Hp Mercury a good motor. Are there any potential problem with this motor I should have known.

I have lost the key for control box
How to find a key for control box or change the lock ?

2 ways. First, take the control box to a Merc dealer and have him check each key. Second, open the control box up and the key number is written on the back of the switch. It will be in the range 100 to 139.
