1976 135 Evinrude water pump

My throttle control started buzzing and I believe it is telling me I have high temperatures in the motor. How do I get to the water pump to see its condition?

To get to the water pump you have to drop the lower unit.
If your motor is running hot and the buzzer go off its usually loud.
Most of the time there is stem comming from the back.
Back to dropping the lower unit, unhook the shift rod (under carbs), unbolt lower casing, shift rod and drive shaft slides out with lower unit.
After its off you can see the water pump impeller.

Thank you, I am still a bit stumped. I have removed the slider from the shift rod, and removed 5 bolts from the lower end, yet the lower end does not budge. Now what?

pull starts works fine, easy to start. Electric start clicks (solenoid) but that's it. Battery is new and charged, any suggestions?

Sorry I can't help you with your evinrude; but this is the prop section.You will get more and better help in the Evinrude/Johnson section.Also it will be worth every penny to get a factory service manual.Factory reprints are available right here at iboats.

You need to start your own thread in the Merc section.It is bad form here to post in others thread.Can be very confusing especially if many posts develope.
As far as your problem be sure all connections are clean and tight.Especially the grounds.
Measure the voltage at the starter connection when you click the solenoid.
And check the voltage at the battery side of the solenoid.
This can be miss leading as sometimes you will read voltage yet there isn't enough current to spin the starter due to a poor connection somewhere. You could also use jumper cables right at the starter connect the positive to the starter terminal and carefully touch the negative to a bare part of the area close to the starter mount.Never use the battery end to make the contact. If the starter works there will be sparks from the initial contact.
