Hi looking at a 1983 Laser Bass Boat to purchase. How do I know if transom and stringers are rotted or not? Only have access to fuel tank area there are no other open areas. Owner claims has always been covered is there a way to assess the stringers without cutting a opening?? Does anyone know if it is common in these boats ? Also Will need to replace steering cable on boat which there is a new one is this a big job and that why it wasn't done?
Any help would be appreciated. Looked around for information and all i could find was how to repair them but how do you check them if you can't see them.

I am no expert, so I won't give you any advice. However, this is discussed in great detail throughout the restoration forum. A quick search will get you a ton of info.

there's not much you can do....the only thing you can really check is the floor....look and push on every available surface of the floor you can get at...open up all hatches, under seats, consoles where ever you can put a foot or hand on push and look for softness.....if the floor is rock solid you can be fairly confident under the floor is ok too...not a guarantee but its the best you can do....as far as the transom, looks for cracks, bulges and or repairs....stand on the skeg of the outboard with all your weight and look for flexing and listen for any creaking, groaning, popping....
