Unfortunately this rumor is not true, At&t just renewed there contract with apple for another 4 years. Sorry, I switched from verizon for this reason.

Well crap! I guess I need to switch or just get a Blackberry Storm...

Heck yeah! I've got about a half dozen people we meet up with on the river and I'm an hours run to the local hot spots... I got to stay in contact to see where everyone is. :)

Sometimes I text, drive the boat and drink a beer all at once! Don't flame me for being talented!! :D

Actually, "talented" was not the first adjective that came to mind...or the second....

Added Bluetooth a while ago. Rarely text anything anytime. Set up phone for voice prompt dial and voice prompt answer. It's a compromise but is a whole lot safer. Any info that needs to be written, I have them text it to me.

The law should be if you get in an accident while on the cellphone you lose your insurance for a certain period.

That probably won't do much for the people that are driving without insurance or drivers licenses though.......

Re: Driving and the cell phone.

I never initiate a call while driving and I take a call only if I've checked caller ID and deemed it important enough. Even then, I'll pull over to give the call my full attention.

BTW, there's been several studies that have shown that hand-held or hands-free are no different. Both decrease your reaction time and attention comparable to someone with a 0.08 BAC. When people are on the phone, they fall back into a 1000 mile stare.

Well I decided to do something to help folks that need to use their phone while driing. It a NEW INVENTION I made and should make me millions. You can even talk on 2 ohones at the same time and still keep your hands on the wheel.. ( wife asked me why one of her dresses was on the floor in her closet...and I pretended I knew nothing about it..lol

I think they should build some sort of cell signal blocker in every vehicle that blocks the signal if the car is in gear.

The manufacture of that device would get sued for sure.

It's not just that you will get hurt, its that you can kill someone else. If you survive a tragedy like a deadly car accident, can you live with yourself? Is whatever you are texting worth killing someone over?

I have a blue tooth but usually don't make calls while driving. Most everyone knows not to call me when I am driving unless its pretty important.

When I use my speaker headset for my iphone I don't even click off the music to answer it. I can't think of anything that can't wait until I reach my destination. I call from a landline to find out if I need to stop on the way home for anything after work.

texting is why God invented red lights. In my end of the world, there are usually 12 every qaurter mile or so, so i can text "war and peace" before i leave town, without causing a problem.

The bottom line is this:

If you are on the phone while driving, everyone who is not considers you an Ahole.

I used to use the phone while driving, but found it interferes with me making whoopie to my wife.

I use hands free "SYNC". One push on a steering wheel button and I tell the system who to call or answer. I can also tell it what I want to listen to, where I want to go.

Cool.

VERY convenient. My eyes never leave the road.

I hope everyone watched this link no matter which side of the fence you are on the subject.
Remember. Even if you get away with it your children will watch you do it and assume it's O.K.
The more your eyes are on the road and you are aware of what is going on and where you are going the better. The difference between avoidance and disaster can be less than 1/100th of a second.
Thank You for posting that link Ladyfish. I hope everyone watches it.

All you people who are using hands free devices are no better than those who don't. They say they are just as dangerous.

Re: Driving and the cell phone.

I went down to visit my sister last night. She's in a wheelchair and has to have help 24x7. She was talking on her cellphone while driving on March 2 when her right wheel slipped off the pavement. She tried correcting, lost control and hit a tree dead center. She broke both the lower bones (tibia and fibula) off at the ankle, broke 9 ribs on her right side and 1 on the left. She also had a collapsed lung. She's actually quite lucky to be alive. I've always preached against cell phones and automobiles, but she needs no sermons now.

I take this issue VERY seriously.

I hope and pray those of you who don't take this seriously never suffer the pain of having one of your own die because they had a head on collison with someone texting.

It is humanly impossible to focus on these two things at once (driving and texting) the brain dosen't function that way. If I get time, I will find the study that was done recently and only 2% of human beings can do this. Trust me, chances are you are not in the 2 percentile.

I agree 100%. What is sad, it's mostly kids driving and texting. I say mostly because I see people my age(mid 40's) so I won't label the entire younger set. However, it is more prevalent among new drivers, which is scary in itself, because it takes years to become an experienced driver.

Re: Driving and the cell phone.

So i have a question,

Here in washington state it is illegal to drive and talk on the phone (unless you are using a hands free device). It is a secondary offense here, and if you get pulled over you can get a ticket for talking on the phone.

Here is the question, how many people have this law and still see police officers talking on there phones? I see it all the time around here, and yet i will get in trouble for it. This really irritates me.

For example, a couple months ago the chief of police in seattle was off duty and checking email on his phone. He rear-ended a person at a stop light. All he had to do was give a public apology and even tried to play it off as "this is why we don't use our phones and drive" kind of thing. Do officers not have to abide by the same rules I do? am I missing something?

Please also don't get me wrong, I have the greatest respect for what the men and woman in blue do for my community around here, and I know that they put there lives on the line all the time for my safety. I do however feel on some things, they can get away with too much.

Just some thoughts on this cell phone subject.
