20 h.p johnson short to long shaft question

i have a mind 70s 20 h.p johnson seahorse short shaft
i want to convert to a long shaft
a buddy of mine has the parts but there for a 35 h.p
but he swears they will work
just looking for some feed back are they compatible or not

Need exact years. They changed the 25 in 76 or 77. Before that, the 35 will not work, after that it probably will. Rick

1976 was the last year of the old 22 cube 25 and the first year of the (newer)35. 1977 and newer 25 parts will interchange with 76 and newer 35's

I myself own a 1986 25 and I have learned that it could be converted to a 35, with some minor changes, such as carburetion.
