I've found this site to be so helpful in the past by just reading other posts but this time I'll have to post my own question and I greatly appreciate any help!

I have a 1998 Mercury 150 HP that the T/T motor quit. The outboard motor will not go up or down. Both solenoids tested fine and I can hear them click so I expect they are working fine. I do not hear the motor run at all. I called Mercury and got the part number and ordered a new T/T motor. Here comes the actual question:

How the heck do I get the old motor off of the T/T pump? Do I have to take the outboard motor clamp off of the transom and if so, what precautions do I need to take? I have the SELOC manual and it's not much help.

Thanks for your help!

The very first precaution is to burn the Seloc manual and buy a Merc Factory Manual.

Yes, you do have to partially disassemble the swivel bracket so you'll need a engine hoist to support the motor.

Thanks, and I agree w/burning the SELOC! I've always had factory manuals before and didn't even notice I was buying something different. I'll buy a factory manual.

Tannnedman: How did you support the motor? I've thought about using a chain hoist to the rafter in my shop. The left side will still be attached, right? Thanks for your thoughts and help!

Thanks. I can use the saw horse on the lower end for support also. Or I can borrow an engine hoist. I was really hoping for a trick where I wouldn't have to take the engine loose :). Thanks again, I'll post later how it went.
