Just came across these great statements in different C'list ads as to titles; thought you all would get a kick.
For a "rowboat" (10-12' fiberglass jon from the looks of it):
<<<I don't really know a lot about boats, but my roomate screwed me over and left his boat so I'm selling it. $200 OBO. Must be able to haul.>>>

<<<"1970's 24 foot Critchfield $1000":
Hull is decent shape. Very solid. Need new motor installed ....Moving and no time to work on it and no place to put it at new place. No title. Previous owner is deceased so easy paperwork to get title to boat. Make offer. Must go soon as I am moving. Can deliver. >>>

<<<1984 wellcraft nova 23'
I got a Wellcraft 23' Nova in good condition ready to go! [info deleted]
MAKE ME AN OFFER!!!! MY BUDDY LOT THE TITLE SO IT IS BEING SOLD WITH TWO BILLS OF SALE ALONG WITH CONTACT INFORMATION FOR THE PREVIOUS OWNER!!! IT MUST GO!! >>>

And this one was just too good:
"Trailer with piece of crap boat boat and titles $350"
I have a 20' 1974 Angler boat that was purchsed for the motor. It has pretty much been been stripped.
Im pretty sure the transom is bad and the floor is too. Perhaps it would be good for target practice, or maaaybe crabbing, maybe.
The trailer, however is in good shape. It is a galvanized single axle trailer that fits the above boat.
I have TITLES
IF YOU WANT THE TRAILER, THE BOAT GOES HOME WITH YOU TOO -PERIOD.
$350 for both

Saw another that was advertised as being in such bad shape it could be used for a floating blind
And if any of these tempt you, or lots more free and almost free boats, go to Norfolk VA Craigslist!
disclaimer none of these are mine

good stuff....I love ads where they say there's no title but will give you a bill of sale......completely useless (at least here in the fine state of NJ)

Hope my boat never gets to the point that it's used for target practice. LOL :D

When I was recently titling a trailer, and I had both the title and a bill of sale, the clerk started to reject me because the bill of sale wasn't descriptive enough. Never mind she was wrong; she had the power! I hate having to suck up to people like that but I'd raterh avoid a fight than win one.

I learned from my DMV with several instances of fouled up paperwork that its all about that computer they input data into. If there is a field on that screen that needs to be filled out and you dont have the info they need to put in there its game over....you can talk until you are blue in the face you aint gettin anywhere.

Re: No Title-No problem--not!

I purchased a boat and trailer two weeks ago from a guy in Wisconsin and he told me that there is no paperwork for the trailer because it isn't necessary in Wisconsin, so I went to the local Minnesota DMV and they just needed him to sign a sheet (application for title) and also fill out a "Statement of Facts". I mailed him the forms to be signed and yesterday I took everything in and the clerk told me the trailer is registered for life and the title is on the way.

Not sure how, but everything worked out great!

Re: No Title-No problem--not!

I thought those adds looked familiar. I look at those every day.

I just moved to the Norfolk area two years ago from Pennsylvania and the DMV and titling procedures are like night and day. In PA both parties must be present in front of a Notary and sign off as a seller and sign on as the buyer witnessed in front of the notary. Identification must be in hand of both parties and you must have insurance on the vehicle at time of purchase or they will not issue you a new title or registration.

Here in VA when I went to the DMV for the first time I was shocked. I had just bought a truck in South Carolina from eBay and the owner just signed the title and handed over the keys. I put my VA plates on it (illegally) but did put insurance on it and drove it here from SC. The next day I went to the DMV and went to the counter and the clerk said that the truck title had to be signed by both the previous owners of the truck as listed on the title (husband and wife) I got mad and said well it looks like I have to drive to SC to get the wife to sign the title. She leaned over the counter and said: "just go outside and sign the title yourself and come back in an hour. No one will ever know the difference." I could not believe my ears. I ended up mailing the title and having it signed along with a new bill of sale signed by the couple. Went to the DMV the next week and got my title. After doing some research on the VA DMV I seen that they have had there share of problems in the past. I guess all of the 911 terrorists had VA drivers licenses and I found this video about how laxed the VA DMV was.
