over fueling?

Today I decided to check compression while I was taking out the t-stats, I've only had the motor a few months, and want to know where it stands, came in at 120psi all around. But the lower left cylinder when I crank it with the plugs out, was spraying fuel out like crazy!! Could a carb be flooding and just going to that cylinder? I've ordered carb kits with the t-stats, just don't want any problems.

Is the fuel pump by chance attached to the bypass cover that feeds that cylinder?

Re: over fueling?

The fuel pump is indeed operated by #4 on a crossflow V4.

Well, the fuel pump is a separate part from the VRO pump. It sounds like you may have a bad fuel pump diaphram, if your cylinder is spraying out fuel through the spark plug hole. If it's still pumping fuel to the carb, then it's probably a small hole.

Can the pump be rebuilt? New diaphragm? Or do I need a whole new pump?

Can I put a non VRO pump on it? If so what do I order it for?

Re: over fueling?

You could use conventional lift pumps but you should use two if you do.

My preference is to rebuild the gasoline side of a VRO or VRO2 or go with the newer VRO/OMS pump. There is a VRO look-alike that is strictly premix, but it is expensive.

Bill Kelly has a section on VRO options here: http://www.maxrules.com/fixomcvro.html

There is a two lift pump setup on the 1998 Johnson 125RWYN 125HP model that can do the job: http://shop.evinrude.com/

Thanks. So I can just rebuild the pump that I have? Id rather do that to keep costs down.

You can rebuild the gasoline side; the oil side and electronic warning system are not repairable. You can use these pumps as premix pumps indefinitely with the rebuild kits. The rebuild kit is actually two part numbers which come up when you select "add to cart".

Be sure to study the diagrams and instructions before you get into it. If you have specific questions, Bill Kelly will usually answer emails fairly quickly.

Re: over fueling?

An 84 115 is a crossflow and will be fine with a single old style pump if you choose to use one. The dual pump set up on a V4 was for the looper, don't get confused.

My mistake, I thought we were working on a 120HP Looper.

Thanks guys. What will a "normal" pump run me? Or what do I ask for at the local marine place?

Re: over fueling?

Ok, need a little help here. I picked up a pump today from the local dealer to replace my VRO pump, and he gave me a 433386. And according to the parts section on this site it fits 20-30hp??? Surely this pump cant be enough for my 115hp?? What pump should I have?

This is the pump he gave me.

Re: over fueling?

433387 would be much better - see the 1983 parts catalog. It bolts directly and takes the pulse without a third hose. You have to remove the plug and block the one used for the VRO pulse line.
