My overheat alarm will go off on my 1991 Johnson GT150 if I idle with the motor trimmed part way up for to long. Once I trim the motor back down the alarm turns off.

I have turned to motor off and touched the block and I can hold my fingers on it for about 4 seconds. There is a sold stream of water coming out of the back, and the intake is clear.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Re: Johnson GT 150 over heat

You can get a constant alarm from two signals on that engine. 1. An overheat on one or both heads. 2. signal from the fuel system vacuum switch that tells of a fuel/oil restriction which may cause the engine to run lean. You need to determine which is setting off the alarm-both can be serious if they are valid signals. You can have an ildle overheat even though you have a good impeller if one/both thermostat(s) stick shut.
