I have a 1996 Johnson 6 horse J6RLEDD
When I got it the kill switch worked. It is not working now.
Can I fix it? Does it need to be replaced? If so is it a fix or replacement I can do myself?

I would check and make sure the wiring to it is connected properly. Something may have came loose. If that is not the problem, then possibly your switch has gone bad.

Not only check that the wiring is good but check that grounding the wiring will stop the engine. And test the switch to see if the switch closes

If all indications are that the switch is indeed faulty take it out and if it is possible to dismantle it and clean the contacts do so. If it's duff and you cannot fix it replace it, but cheap it is not!

(used to be a routine job on an old Volvo Penta I used at one time)
