First off, love the site alot of smart folks around here, or yall are puttin on a good show.;)

Here goes,

I have a 25 hp mercury, electric and pull start. Don't know the year model but I know it's a mid to late 90's model. Maybe a 95-96? Serial code is og116114 if that helps.

Back in the summer it got to where it was hard to crank. When it does crank it purrs like a putty cat. Checked gas lines they are good. I know it's not good but just to see, I sprayed ether in it, wouldn't fire. If ether won't make it at least fire, it's electrical right?

Brand new plugs. I left them connected and grounded out and no sparks. With electric start or pull start they wouldn't fire.

Anyway to test to see where the problem is coming from? I surely appreciate any information, thanks guys.

Unplug the black/yellow wire from the kill switches at the box and check for spark, the switch in the steering handle go bad all the time. Don't spray a engine with ether or you could damaged it.

Well, seems to me you narrowed it down to a pulse pack or a trigger. Not familiar with that size engine. I am reasonable sure that you have 2 cylinders, but how the plugs are fired is what I don't know (how many pulse packs, how are they triggered, where does the operating voltage come from sort of things) and I don't know if you need a battery to start it even though it has a crank rope. With magneto ignition you used to not have to have a battery, but with today's solid state ignitions who knows. I don't know if your ignition is magneto. It could have one and still be electric start.

A manual would certainly help as you need some answers as to where you go from here.

25 hp tiller....hmmmmmm, don't you have a kill switch on the tiller handle? If this shorts out (closed all the time) you will not get any spark from either type ignition. Might disconnect either of the two wires (I'd assume 2) going to it and try it. Also, check those wires back into the engine for chafing or touching metal sort of things.

As for starting fluid, get a can of Deep Creep. It has oil in it and was designed for 2 cycle OB engines....Autozone, WW, NAPA, most any autoparts store.

I used the ether with oil in it btw. It is a stick steer 25. I spoke with a fellow that knows about motors and he thinks its the pulse pack as well. Since my warranty is out(dammit) I guess I'll have to come up with a couple hundred bucks.:(
