Need help. I want to replace a Mercruiser One outdrive in a 1965 Carver (110 hp iron duke engine) with an Alpha One outdrive from a 3.0 powered sea ray. I am told this can be done however I need to know if the transom cutout is the same and if not is the cutout larger or smaller for the Alpha. Smaller will cause problems. Also can someone provide the link to the Alpha service manual? Finally are the drive shaft splines to the engine the same or do I need an adapter?

Ayuh,... The Factory manuals are available up in the Adults Only section, pinned to the top of this forum...

Yes, the transom cut out is Nearly the same,... It'll probably just need alittle Trimming, but not filling...

You're going to run into fitment Issues trying to fit your old motor to the newer transom assembly...
The Splines are basically the Same, although their length changed between the Mod.1 to Alpha 1...

Btw,... Welcome Aboard...

The 110 didn't even use a 1 drive, it has an even older 1AEZ drive. You WILL have problems with getting things to work.
If the SeaRay has a 3.0L engine in it, even if blown up, you might want to consider using all the accessories off that engine, and use your block.

Re: switching outdrives-mercruiser

Thanks for all the help. I have printed off sections of the manuals. I do not have the blown engine but I have everything but the block so I have the flywheel and the spline adapter to the flywheel. Is that all I need if I utilize everything from the searay aft of the flywheel? I am going thru this exercise to obtain a more reliable/repairable unit and to get one that has power lift/trim that the Carver outdrive does not have and cannot be refitted with. thanks again.

Re: switching outdrives-mercruiser

Hello, back again on this project. I have completed the switch from a mercruiser one to an alpha one. Only complication was that a special welded up connection for the exhaust water was needed because of the different offset to the port side. Next question is whether the 14 x 19 3 blade prop is still going to do the job. Does anyone know if the gear ratio has been changed in this switch, ie do I need a flatter pitch prop since the old outdrive fit the 110 hp engine I still am using and the alpha one outdrive fit a 130 hp engine?
