need part # or where to get tiller gear (cog)

1979 johnson 15 hp. I need the gear with 6 small teeth and one large tooth that meet when the tiller handle goes up and down. I just need the gears not the whole unit. and I need to get both of them I think they are the same. Ebay has handles with the gear for like 70 bucks but that only gets me half way there for like twice the cost.

Go to shop2.evinrude.com and look up your model. Worst part of the motor IMO. You can get just the gears but they aren't cheap!!! If the gears aren't broken and just slipping the handle probably needs to be shimmed.

Budget Boats in Chesapeake has a pile of tiller arms. Try them or another boat salvage yard.

My buddy needed the same set, and tim's outboard 218-682-2331 had 'em. New replacement for the one coming from the motor was under $40, and used one from tiller arm he threw in for $5 more. Give 'em a try.. tell 'em kirby sent ya..haha.
