I Have A Mercury Mie 7.4l Mpi 2001 . My Question Is Has Anybody Had Experience With Oil Comsumption With One Of These Engines. I Have No Dtcs , No Blow By And All Engine Parameters Are In The Normal Window Of Operation. The #s Match The Stbd Engine That Is Not Consuming Oil. There Is No Prefomance Issues Either
Help Please

Re: 7.4l Mpi Mercury

With no external leaks , good compression readings,I`d suspect the valve stem seals.

Re: 7.4l Mpi Mercury

Thanks for the input, valve seals was my thought aswell, I do not know if Mercury put positive valve seals on the exhaust valves. I know GM did not form 1989 on . Does any buddy know ? The lack of blow by tells me the rings/cylinders are OK. A compression test on the inboard bank will be VERYtime consuming & expensive
Thanks

Re: 7.4l Mpi Mercury

Just an FYI
Mercury is the outboard part of Mercury marine.
Mercruiser is the Inboard and IO part of Mercury marine.
You have a 7.4 Mercruiser MIE
