I have a 25 hp mercury xd that stopped running. I was cruising down the lake and it just died. I checked the plugs and am not getting any spark. Do I need to change my plugs, is it a switch box, or are my coils bad? Any help would be great.

Check to see if power is coming from the stator to the switchbox, then from the switchbox to the coils...basically trace it and see where the power stops...replace that component. ishopmarine.com has a pretty good selectiong of hard to find parts for that motor.

What is the best way to see if power is coming from the starter, to the switchbox, and then to the plugs?

With a voltage tester, turn the motor over as if you were starting it, while it's turning over test the connections. Most of the connections are little plugs and you can get the needle down in them to test it. See what is getting power and whats not letting it go to the next component. Where the power stops is your faulty part. Just don't turn the starter too long to keep from burning it up (3 to 5 second burst). If it's a pull start, remove the plugs so the compressions don't kill your arm.

Thanks. I will give that a try and hopefully find what's bad.
