Cable Slide

I need to replace a cracked gimbal housing on a Pre Alpha drive. I got the hinge pins out and need to disconnect the cable slide from the core wire to remove the housing. How does the cable side disconnect? Or do I need to disconnect the shift cable from the inside and pull the whole cable through the bell housing then re-thread it? I have 69 mercruiser 120.

Re: Cable Slide

There are two crimping screws with square heads on the cable end inside the boat. Loosen these. Then on the bell housing side, there's a wire keeper on the end of an allen head screw. Cut the wire and remove the screw and pull the cable out.

Re: Cable Slide

I will put in a new cable, but what does the allen head screw do? I took the keeper off and unscrewed the allen head and nothing. How does the slide come off the cable.
