OK, the very first answer we need is why do you want to disconnect the VRO?? compression seems a tad high to me, but gauges all read differently, as long as the numbers are all pretty even, then you will be fine.

Are we to assume that the fuel pump of the VRO is still intact.
If it is then you need to seal of the oil input with a short piece of fuel hose and a plug in it. You can then run on 50:1 in the tank.

Thank You that sounds great, but i see a hose that come from under the carbs. Like maybe attach to the motor. I have been doing some reading on here and I believe it's a pulse hose, if so leave it open or plug it. Not sure but can another fuel pump fit this motor

STOP, nothing is clear in this post. which fuel pump do you have on your motor. the big round VRO pump, with the oil side still connected? or do you have the replacement premix pump.

Re: 1985 50 hp evinrude vro need to convert to premix

this is true nothing is clear in a way. there is no big round pump. the only thing is the fuel pump on the side of the motor with a few hoses that I would like to replace with an in and an out. I would like to know about a hose that comes out from under the bottom carb that looks to be connect to the motor, I can't see under there where it goes. so far, I got a hose at the fuel connector on the motor plug off. So I take it it will run that way. Fine , but I would like to replace the fuel pump and know what to do with the hose that come from under the carb leave it open like it is or plug it off. just would like to clean it up a bit. With all the hoses and the wires that go to the motor it is a little tight. get rid of what I don't need and what fuel pump do I need to replace the ( I guess ) the one that came with it.

I think the hose you are referring to goes to the air silencer. It is not a pulse hose.

Ok I got it now. I replace the fuel pump no hose under bottom carb. I got an in and out and a hose that comes off the fuel pump and goes behind the starter and hooks up to the motor. Question is now what is that hose for or what does it do? If I can find out, I will be a happy fisherman.:D

that is the fuel pump I have on there now. Question is what is the third hose for? I know fuel in, fuel out, and the third one goes behind the starter to the motor. little by little I will get this right. Thank to everyone::D

the 3rd hose is the pulse hose off the crankcase, the pulse is what causes the pump to pump. there is a small hose that goes under the carbs, that recycle fumes from crankcase, back into the air silencer, that sounds like the loose hose. should connect to the lower port side of the air silencer.

Ok now I know what that third hose does Thank You very much everything else is in tact. you talk about a small hose going to the air silencer. I take it it is the box like thing that is in front of the carbs. If so, there is a small hose that is connected to the bottom of it. The other hose that look like it was connected to the motor under the bottom carb turns out to be the hose that was connected to the vro pump and I removed that. So all is well now. Just need to get it bolted up to the boat and go fishing. That picture of the pump helped out to get me going. Thanks for all your help. I don't even want to know about factory smoke in the motor. this was too much:D

I am attempting to replace a bad VRO with the fuel pump 438558 pictured in the thread above. Can anyone help me figure out which port goes to the pulse hose and which is the out port for the fuel? Sorry if I am asking something that should be obvious.
