Need help. Found out my VRO unit on my 1985 70 Johnson is bad. I don't want to fork out the money for a new pump unless someboby knows where to get one cheap. What parts and steps are necessary to replace the vro with a regular fuel pump? By the way, the oil tank was already unhooked and I was pre-mixing oil. Parts and steps would be appreciative.

I can't help you on this one, don't have anything with VRO. You might try doing a search, I think there has been several posts on the subject.

BRP Part Number: 0438559
Description: FUEL PUMP AY

from kenmyfan.

I used a 3 connection pump from a 1982 Johnson 140hp. (so I was told)
1 connection from the main fuel (now premix) line.
1 connection to the motor fuel feed for the carbs.
1 connection from the VRO pulse fitting.
Right now the motor has never run sweeter or sounded better.

Re: Replacing VRO in 1985 70HP

Is that part number (0438559) going to work with my 70hp? Is there a certain size or type of pump I need? Also Where can I get one of the pumps? Where can I get the parts to rebuild my vro(fuel side) if I decide to do that? The new mechanical pump just sounds easier though....any other info appreciated!
