I just aquired a 91 Maxum 2100ldr with a force 120 motor in it. the motor is gone (hole in a piston) what would the most direct replacement for the force 120 be? dont really want to change alot of stuff. more power would be great if i dont have to do major swaps. Looking for the most simple way to get back on the water. not the cheapest necissarily, but the easiest that would be the most direct swap

thanks for all of your help guys!

Maxum 2100ldr, as in L-drive?

Sorry, but that is the only engine that will work.
No other powerhead will hook up to the drive unit.

Probably buy a whole other boat with an outboard for what it will cost you to get that one fixed. :(

will any other power heads work on this boat? such as a force 125 or force 150 or a 5 year newer force 120? i have access to all three outboard engines that i can pull the power head from

Re: 91 Maxum with force 120

I don't believe the 150 will physically fit, and don't know if the driveshaft splines will line up.

Same for the 5 year newer 120, it might, but I believe Mercury changed the driveshaft at some point in the mid nineties.

A 125 may possibly work.

If you find a powerhead that the crankshaft/driveshaft will line up, the rest should swap out.

I would start another thread, asking specifically about the driveshaft splines on the various models/years.

There are plenty of guys on here that will know the answer, just not me.

Are you doing the work yourself, or did you find a mechanic that will work on it?

im doing the majority of the work myself. it doesnt look to be to bad. looks like 6 bolts that hold the powerhead to the plate and then unbolting the electrical componants and it should lift right out from the looks of things. if i have to go inside of the engine i will leave that to my engine builder

Re: 91 Maxum with force 120

why not rebuild the motor thats on it ,and not worry about splines lining upor not? These motors are really simple, and if you check the threads here ,you'll find plenty of first time rebuilders. If the other holes are not damaged, you can bore just the one hole if needed. Some rebuilds have cost less than 500.00 if you do most of the work your self and don't have to bore all cylinders. Just something to think about....: MOPARMAN
