New to the forum, any help is appreciated.

After fishing last night we were going back to the dock and the motor wouldn't start. Ran fine all evening until going home. When we first tried to start the motor it smelled like it was flooded, we let it sit and tried again, and again, and so on. No gas smell and the bulb in the fuel line was rock hard and wouldn't squeeze. After paddling 1/2 mile to the dock at 2:00am we got the boat home.

This morning, on the muffs we tried again. No dice.
Here is what I know:
1. motor cranks but no start
2. tried to check spark but motor will not turn with plug out of cylinder
3. Tried injecting gas directly into carbs. nothing
4. Checked fuel system from tank to engine, seems to flow fine.

My thinking is that it's not getting fuel.

Any theories on this problem?

Thanks in advance,
Deaner

Doesn't make sense. Why would taking out a spark plug make the engine not turn over?

First thing on OB always is spark and compression tests.

I had a similar problem last week wit my 2003 mariner outboard.

In my case the engine start but stall in 10 seconds...

The problem was water in gas.
I drained fuel pump and problem was solved.
Look for a drain screw at the bottom of fuel pump, then refill with bulb and try again.

I have also added a water separating fuel filter...cheap and easy...

I agree, I've never seen that on a atv, car, harley, lawnmower, etc. but that's what happened, wouldn't turn over. New to boats and I've never seen a flat bottom spark plug. What's up with that?
