I replaced the tubing between the oil tank and the oil injection pump. How can I be sure thar the oil is now flowing. I have turned the engine over a few times but have not let it run for fear of no oil getting to the carbs. The tubing is clear and I can see that the oil has not moved. Does it have to run for a while before the oil will start to move. How to I make sure that there is enough old in the system until the oil starts moving through the new tubing.

Not sure if this will work, but you might give it a try. Make sure the oil tank is clean and no crud in the bottom where the oil line hooks up that might possibly restrict oil flow. Pull all the plugs out and ground the spark plug wires to prevent any possible damage to the switch box or CD units. Not sure which ones you have. Put your throttle in the neutral fast idle position and advance the throttle as far forward as you can. Crank the engine. Advancing the throttle will open the valve in the injection pump to let more oil in. Don't crank the engine for too long. The starter is designed for intermittent use and can get overheated.

Mark the oil level on the tank.

Put premixed fuel in the gas tank.
Run the motor for an hour or two and monitor the oil level.

Worst that can happen is that it will get double oil, smoke some, or possibly foul the plugs.

Better too much oil than no oil.

Thanks. I already thought of adding oil to the gas. The only problem is that it is an internal tank and I do not know how much gas is in it so I will have to drain it and then add the correct amount of oil and gas back in. But that I agree is the best answer.

I solved the problem. Since I replaced the bad tubing with clear tubing I could see where the oil was in the new tubing so I started the engine and sprayed fogging oil in the carbs. After the engine ran for a while with me putting in the fogging oil I could see the oil moving in the new tube. When the oil had moved to where it joined the fuel line I was sure that the new line was feeding oil properly. I ran the engine for a few minutes and continued to get blue smoke. I am good now thanks for your help.

I would LOVE to see a photo! I have never seen any Force engine with oil injection standard. Perhaps it was added later by a previous owner? Or perhaps it is a Mercury fitted with a Force cowling?

I worked on one of those Frank. Blew me away too first time I saw it. Everything is the same as the later Force blocks except towards the lower part of the block where you would normally see the bottom fuel recirculation cover, the casting is changed. There is no recirculation cover and there is a spot where they mount the injector pump. There is a hole that is drilled from the outside of the block right through to the bottom snout of the crank. It is driven off of a helical gear on the bottom of the crankshaft with a geared shaft that connects the injector pump to the gear on the crank. The normal crankshaft support bearing is also different. It's not as tall since the snout on the bottom of the crank is limited in space and you have to mount both the bearing and the gear. These were Mercury Sport Jet blocks originally.

Take a look at the block and crank. There's also a section that shows the injector pump.

WOW! I'm going to need to find one to work on too. Very interesting. Thanks for the link.

Re: 1992 Force 125 Oil Injection

I have a question about if there is any alarm that would tell me if I ran out of oil. I know there is a sensor on the tank if the oil goes too low in the tank. But is there any other sensor. The reason I ask is that the reason I had to replace my tubing is that it broke off because it got brittle. I will know now to replace it more often. I was very lucky because it broke while it was on the trailer and the oil drained out of the tank into the bottom of the boat. I can not find anything in the manual about any other sensor. By the way I am the origional owner of the boat. I purchased it new in 1992 and when I was looking for a boat in 1991 I was told that Force would have oil injection in 1992 so I waited until 1992 to purchase the boat with oil injection. This is a Bayliner L-Drive 120 Force the boat is 20 foot. It has always run great.

You certainly have a rare setup. L-Drive with oil injection. I know the Sport Jet blocks are very similar to the L-Drive blocks as far as the exhaust cover. Never imagined that the oil injection was also the same. Only sensor I see is the oil level.

John: Are you anywhere near the upper bay? because if you are, next time I'm down there, I just really need to look at that engine. That oil injection really intrigues me.

No Frank I am in Cumberland MD out on the western end of the state. I do all my boating in the lakes out here. I did take the boat to Ocean City once. I have thought about going to the bay putting in at Sandy Point and going up to Baltimore but I never have. My son lives in Baltimore so it would be worth the trip. I will let you know if I get down that way. I tried to take a picture for you but the file was too big for this system to handle it. Send me your e-mail and I will send you the pictures I took.
