Deck replacement question

I am ready to put new deck plywood down in my 86 Ebco 16'. It started out to be a 'fix the soft spot event' which has progressed to the entire deck. Now I'm wondering if the bottom side of the plywood should be coated with something or is it ok to leave it bare?

Re: Deck replacement question

You should at the least resin coat the bottom and edges.

If you are using poly (cheeper) resin you need at least two coats, epoxy is better to use for sealing wood, it will take two coats as well.

Is this for an aluminum or fiberglass boat?

BTW you might have more responses in restoration and building

Absolutely roll on a coat underneath. Stay with the less expensive polyester resin. As fuzzeywiggler mentioned pay attention to the edges. :D

Why not use foam, faced with fiberglass? Use 1/4" foam, with chop/roven/chop on each size and the whole thing will be lighter, cheaper and will never rot.
