Hello,
So i am thinking i want to upgrade to more HP !! I am trying to figure out the value of my current engine. The more i read the more confused i get. I see some similar engines for $4000, then some for $2000 ?? soo much variance in prices. So i am just trying to get a rough idea of how much i could sell mine for. Its a 2000 evinrude 115 ficht motor. I am not sure the exact hours as of today, but last summer i think it was around 170hours, so very low. Its clean, and not sure what else to say? Anyone have an idea for a fair market price? Where do most people sell or buy used engines?

thanks a ton guys !

A 2000 Ficht is not worth much ... they have a terrible reputation in the marketplace. I wouldn't try to guess it's value, but I've suggested to people looking at boats with V4 Ficht's to consider the motor of 0 value.

Well everybody is entitled to their own opinion now aren't they. I respect your thoughts on my motor, and maybe they even have some validity, but i was asking what i thought was a serious question and was hoping for some honest advice. If your saying i should just toss it in the garbage because its worth $0.00 ?? I find that hard to believe. It seems to pull our big boat just fine, i just want more HP. Sorry for my direct response, but i am just trying to gather info, and if you do not like this motor that's great, more power to you. I have not been in a hole the last 8 years, and also know the issues of this engine, but for every 20 people talking crap, i can find 10 loving every hour on the water with it, (wait,, thats not the best odds?? haha)

thanks anyway

I'm just saying I wouldn't buy it, along with a lot of others. 2000 was around the time OMC bellied up and not too long after, BRP bought the remains (but not the obligations). There were tons of Ficht's that grenaded, which is whence the bad rep. Even if yours is great, most buyers won't think so. This is true, even though the V4s were OK motors, but the V6s awful. Sorry. Just my opinion.

I loved OMC motors for years and owned a number of them personally for many years and now own two BRP E-Tec 175's.

Try to get them most you can, of course. NADA claims ~ $2500 ave retail, but most don't consider NADA very accurate. A dealer may well offer more than you could sell it for as a trade in. A good dealer will give you his value opinion as well. An issue you may encounter is a lot of dealers will not work on the Ficht motors.

A lot of motors are sold on Ebay, but shipping can be a problem for the larger motors. Also, CL sells a bunch of motors, along with various internet bulletin boards, fishing websites having classifieds, etc.
