Marine starters are expensive. I'd try to get the one in the boat rebuilt.

Good luck with your first I/O.:D

WHEW!!!!!

I just looked on the VOLVOPENTA website...$1057.00 for the starter assembly! Thats frickin rediculous!

I was so glad to see that I may be able to get one for under a hundred.

I hope this works!

When I turn the key it sounds like it wants to crank then it grinds and the starter whines real fast. The next timw I turn the key it may work...may not. grinds then whines... somebody says its the solenoid some say its the starter some says its the gear on the starter...

i dont have a clue...once its cranked...it sounds great!

Re: Best place to get volvo starter

I had a similar issue,

when I took the starter off, the nose piece had shattered so the gear was

not engaging the flywheel. it was a brand new (about 15 - 20 starts) starter

from R.A.R.E electric in NC.

They said it was something wrong with my engine, and could not give me any

specifcs on what could cause this.

would not honor the warrenty.

avoid them

got one from DB electric and it has been working fine:)

You need to take out the starter and have it bench tested.

Re: Best place to get volvo starter

there should be a plate on the bell housing, just above the starter the will say 125A or B.
either way its the same starter if its a AQ125

Re: Best place to get volvo starter

ok..ill look this evening.

im itching to get this thing in the water. after spending the summer in the 15 and a half foot trihull, this 21' cuddy has all kind of room.

hope this is not as big a deal as im afraid its gonna turn out to be.

Re: Best place to get volvo starter

i take it buying a new one is probably cheaper than trying to rebuild it right?

Re: Best place to get volvo starter

have you taken the starter out of the boat yet? Do you plan to do the repair yourself? You will get the answers when you bring it to a repair shop and they tell you whats wrong with the starter.

Re: Best place to get volvo starter

You could take it to a local auto parts store. Some have a bench tester. Better yet go to an automotive electric shop and have it tested and if bad, they could quote you a price to rebuild it.
