Finally took out my boat and the alarm went off in mid operation. Shut it down and it came right back on again. Any ideas of what might cause this?

Thanks, LanVa

Which V6, carb'd, EFI, optimax?
What did the alarm sound like? beeping or a solid note?

John,

It's 1991 motor, alarm did a loud beep (continual). I believe it's carb'd.

Any input would be greatly appreciated? Lan

Re: Mercury Outboard 150, V6 - Alarm

On the starboard side of the engine, just above the switchboxes is a terminal strip. One terminal has3 wires on it, a wire going into the harness, one to a temp switch on a head, and one to the oil alert module mounted on the port side of the engine. Disconnect the temp and oil wires. turn on the key.

If the alarm sounds, there is a short in the harness.
If it doesn't reconnect the other two wires till it sounds. Follow the wire to the bad component. A continuous beep out of either with a cold engine is a failure.

hope it helps
John
