Fished today and everything worked fine on my boat - trimmed great
Backed boat into drive way and trimmed motor down. I was working on something else when I heard the motor trimming down all by itself. Ran and pushed the up button - (small motor trim single piston) and it stopped. Took my finger off and it started again. Had wife hold button while I unhooked negative on battery. When I touched the battery - it would continue to trim down. Once, it worked fine again, but then continued with the same problem. Anyone have any idea what is going on? Thanks Evinrude 1994 40 hsp.

You have power trim on your 40:redface:
Must be nice!

The relay or switch is sticking, try whacking it!
Whacking is a tech term for tapping with a screwdriver with reasonable force.

Re: 1994 E40TLERE trim problem

swap the relays.
if thats the problem you can pop the stuck relay open with a small screwdriver, they're just pressed together, clean the contacts by drawing sandpaper through them, try again.

But its could very likely be the stern switch just sticking, remove and clean it.
