How much speed will another 90hp get me?

I know this is a general question but I have a 200hp omc 305. Boat weighs around 3000lbs and has trim (it's the boat in my avatar). I'm going to be doing some motor work on it and expecting to hit close to 300hp. What kind of top speed gains can I hope for?

Between 9 and 10 MPH I believe.

I've read here that signifigant horspower increase without a gear ratio change can result in poor performance and difficult prop selection.
Whether your motor falls in that classification I don't know.

Your referring to I/O gear ratio?



sounds like it's worth the money then... I wouldn't mind another 9-10mph.
