Re: 1995 70 force

I have a 1996 Starcaster Bass Boat with a 1995 Mercury Force 70. I have never put it to wide open throttle (WOT.) I have had it to 4500 rpm and the speedo said that I was doing 35 mph. It went up on plane and was relatively smooth sailing. As far as the interchangeability between the 90 and the 70, I'll leave that info to those who have more information and experience.

If the Johnson is running properly, it will do a much better job.
It has much more power and turns a larger diameter prop.

70 - 90 different carb(s)
different fuel pump
different electrical and ignition system
Trim pump might swap
starter solenoid, trim relays, controls, should all work

Should get about 30 mph out of the 70, with the boat empty.
Bet you would get 35-38 out of the Johnson.
