We own a 2001 Calabria which is run by a Mercruser 350 MAG MPI. At the beginning of the season, the boat died while idling but restarted after cooling down. We took it to a mechanic and they told us we needed a new fuel pump. On the next trip, we had the same problem and the boat died at idle again. The boat did restart after cooling down but has done this every time we use it. We have replaced the sea water pump, water circulation pump, thermostat. Still we have the same problem. We took it to a different mechanic this week and they returned the boat once again with the same problem. They said the motor is not overheating but that the motor may be sensing that it is overheating. It seems to have vapor locking symptoms. This boat has a cool fuel system and electronic fuel injection system. We are at our wits end!! We haven't been able to use our boat, have taken it to two different shops, can't get into another one for weeks and need help. Any suggestions?

could be a number of things. fuel system needs to be checked for proper fuel pressure. fuel pressure regulator should be checked. also, as stated by bigskiohio, there are sensors on motor that will shut engine down if they fail, or if connections aren't good. you may need to have someone hook up a code scanner to your system, verify if there are any malfunctions, then fix. otherwise, it's a matter of checking fuel system, ignition system, all connections, battery condition.
