I have a bow and cockpit cover, and it is a good idea to use something if you can. Docks with lights attract lots of bugs, and makes for a messy cleanup, plus the spider crap.

I had a problem with birds sitting on the rails and crapping. Fake snakes laying around on the boat helped deter them. Most runabouts at my marina are all covered with full canvas. Mainly to help shed the water during storms.
