90 hp optimax lower unit question

I have an 06 90 hp optimax. I am thinking I need to change or atleast check the lower unit oil. I do not know if the oil has ever been changed. Do I need to just check the oil or change it? If i just ad to the oil can use just any lower unit oil or do i need to only use the quick silver?

You should change it. Use any good quality marine gear oil. Then you'll know what you have in there and when it was last changed. I change mine twice a year...at the beginning of the season and at the end. It's easy enough to do and a lot less expensive than replacing the lower unit.

Good idea to change before winter months at least. Exactly, a lot cheaper for 10.00 for oil rather than 1000 for a lower unit.
