A. Green wire w/ three eylets, one goes to the bellhousing (tag that says "secure to bellhousing") and I'm thinking the other one goes to the water neck by the transom?? but where does the third go? Any ideas? Its an '85

B. the plate that fastens to the bellhosing through the transom plate with 6 bolts has two large rubber doughnut seals. (sorry I don't know the exact name) The bolts will not go in (even w/o the plate, they just get started and then stop) What gives?

#2 I dont know you need to look at the threds and see why?

#1 I know one of the wires goes on the trim motor allen screw ( holds down motor)

hmm, think it'll show this wire in the engine manual?

B. As far as the threads go. I HAVE NO IDEA!! haha. the threads "look" good. I put a tap in there, and it was going...and then it snapped... I really don't know what to do, other than drill them all out and put a fresh tap in there a little larger, or drill them out and helicoil it, but I don't know of a helicoil that is that long. I just don't want to ruin the bellhousing because thats' definitely bad news bears.

the green wire on mine goes from the bellhousing to the trim assembly, however I do not have power trim, and then it ends at the bolt that runs horizon ally thru the splined fitting that the steering helmet splined shaft fits up into inside the transom and connects to the steering linkage, right below the grease fitting.

Does that make any sense?

I think your on your own on the six bolts. Did they come out ok?

hey thanks capt. The only part I don't get is where it goes to the trim assy.

The bolts came out pretty tough, but its hard to give an accurate gauge on how hard they were because the heads were rusted and in bad shape.

I'm thinking I might just have to drill them and tap them a bit bigger?:confused::confused:

The green wire is basically for corrosion control and bonds some of the parts.
The three connections are
1. steering arm. should have a 1/4" bolt in the top of the arm.
2. the transom shield itself. can't remmber eactly where it hooks up
3. engine ground stud on the bellhousing (Flywheel cover)

You don't have that on a 290, that is on a 270 to 280 electromechanical lift.

Got it! Thanks!

Now, Do you have any thoughts about the bellhousing? Is drilling and re-tapping a bad idea? I've never experienced anyhting like this and don't know what other options I have.

I have no idea what you are referring to. Pictures would be a good thing at this point. The ring the donut goes on has 3 threaded holes and 6 thru holes. To attach it to the bellhousing, you want to put those long bolst through the 6 thru holes. NOT the threaded ones.

Right, I got them going into the right place. its just, some how the threads are all screwed. I don't know how thats possible if the bolts came out?!!

I don't know if you'd be able to tell in a picture what the threads look like since they're down in there. But i'll see if I can't get one. Thanks again

Re: 2 Questions volvo aq290

I think my only option is to drill and re-tap. But I want to check before I go ahead and do it. I don't see how i'd screw anything up, but its a volvo...

I'm going from the 10 x 1.5 thread to a 12 x 1.5 thread.
