I just bought a 16' cc carolina skiff. It is powered by a 25 hp suzuki 4 stroke which has a stingray hydrofoil mounted to the cavitation plate. The boat has a 6 gallon gas tank in the back and a trolling motor and battery in the front. At WOT (5800 RPM) the boat only does 22 mph with just me (210 lbs) in it.

My prop is a Solas and it is stamed B10 1/8 x 13RN (I think it is hard to read). What does that mean? Do you think I have the right prop?

I thought the boat would reach mid to high 20 MPHs.

10 1/8" Diam. X 13" pitch, it sounds about right, as well as your rpms.

Re: Prop Help

I was wrong about my WOT RPMs. It is actually around 4800 to 5000 RPMs. Should I change my prop to get closer to 5500? Is so, will the boat be faster?

P.S. I removed the hydrofoil and it now goes adbout 25 mph. I just ordered Smart Tabs.

Re: Prop Help

Don't buy another prop until after you run the boat with the trim tabs, they could raise your RPM.

Re: Prop Help

I installed the smart tabs and the boat runs much better, but not faster. At WOT I am at 4,800 RPMs. My manual states I should be in the range of 5,000 to 5,6000. My prop is 10 1/8" diameter and 13 pitch. Should I change my prop? I would like to gain a little MPHs.

Re: Prop Help

Gator you will need to change to an 11" pitch prop to get your RPM up to acceptable limits for your motor. It will increase your hole shot and you will be able to increase your load carrying capability, but it is not going to increase your speed, you only have 25 HP on a 16' boat, sorry.

Re: Prop Help

You should run at max rpms with the load that you carry. Now you have a boat full of holes.
